The navies of India, Singapore, and Thailand launched several military exercises on Monday in the Andaman Sea. The mega drill between the three nations will be two days long.
The Indian Navy said that the drill underlines the growth synergy, coordination, and cooperation in the maritime area between the three friendly nations.
The Indian Navy is being represented by missile corvette Karmuk, whereas, the Singapore Navy is being represented by RSS Tenacious, a frigate class, and the Thai Navy is being represented by Khamrosin class anti-submarine patrol craft Thayanchon.
The SITMEX exercise is conducted annually since 2019. This exercise aims to upgrade inter-operability between the navies of India, Singapore, and Thailand.
The first edition of this exercise in 2019 was hosted by the Indian Navy off Port Blair while the second edition was hosted by the Republic of Singapore Navy in 2020. The current edition, that is, 2021 is being hosted by the Royal Thai Navy.
“The exercise is being conducted as a ‘non-contact, at sea only’ exercise given COVID-19 restrictions and highlights growing synergy, coordination, and cooperation in the maritime domain between the three friendly navies,” the Indian Navy said.
