INS Khukri decommissioned after being in service for 32 years

After 32 years of faithful service, the first of the indigenous missile corvettes, INS Khukri, was decommissioned on Thursday. 

During the ship solemn ceremony at Visakhapatnam, the flag, the naval engine, and the decommissioning pennant were lowered at sunset. Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command aslo attended the decommissioning ceremony. 

INS Khukri was built by Mazagaon Dock Shipbuilders on 23rd August 1989 and it had the distinction of being part of both the Western and Eastern Fleets. 

It was commissioned in Mumbai by the then Defence Minister Krishna Chandra Pant and Mrs. Sudha Mulla, wife of late Captain Mahendra Nath Mulla, MVC with Commander (now Vice Admiral Retd.) Sanjeev Bhasin as the first Commanding Officer. 

As per an official release on Friday, the ship was affiliated with the Gorkha Brigade, attended the solemn ceremony.
