India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC) Vikrant started its second phase of sea trials on Sunday. The indigenous aircraft carrier is planned to be inducted formally into the Indian Navy by August next year.
INS Vikrant successfully completed a five-day maiden sea trial in August. Following the first sea trials, the Indian Navy had said that the performance of important systems of the warship was found to be satisfactory.
“Indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant sailed out on Sunday from Kochi for the second sea trials,” an official said.
The warship will operate MiG-29K fighter jets, Kamov-31 helicopters, MH-60R multi-role helicopters. The aircraft carrier has over 2300 compartments, designed for a crew of 1700 people which also include specialised cabins to accommodate women officers.
