The Jammu and Kashmir Police have initiated the process to acquire around 8000 bullet-resistant (BR) jackets for its cops who are involved in counter-terrorism and security operations.
The J&K police will also get bullet-resistant vehicles of various levels of protection and glasses for vehicles, protective head-gears, ultra-wide CCTV surveillance systems and deep search mine detectors.
As per the sources, 7416 BR jackets of level-5 protection and 784 BR jackets of level-6 protection will be acquired by the J&K police for its personnel who are involved in counter-terrorism and security operations for the best possible protection.
The J&K police HQ lately floated bids on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) online portal for the procurement of these BR jackets of level-5 and level-6. These jackets will be subjected to mandatory ballistic testing at Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU).
The aim of procuring these jackets is to provide an edge to the police force who are confronting the terrorists, maintaining law and order, and ensuring the overall security of the union territory, the officials said.
