
Lance Naik Anoop Kumar Sharma belonged to the Bhind district of Madhya Pradesh. He was born to Shri Ramshankar and Smt Rajindri Devi. He just after completing his initial schooling went on to join the Indian Army. There he got recruited into the arm which is known as the ‘God of War’, The Regiment of Artillery.

After serving many years with his parent unit, he went on to serve for 30 RR on deputation, to engage more in counter-insurgency operations. During 2010, his unit 30 RR was deployed in J&K, to engage in terrorist operations and to maintain peace in the area. On the night of 6th May 2010, their unit got input about some terrorist’s presence in a village in the Baramulla district. An operation was launched as the input was so sure, a team was made and Lance Naik Anoop Kumar was also part of the team. He was the scout of the team. On the early morning of 7th May, he observed some suspicious activity and led the team towards that. Terrorists saw him and started firing blindly on him. On which Lance Naik Anoop retaliated heavily with his rifle, and he also got seriously injured while in the process but he continued on his duty. And he managed to shot down two of them before falling himself and he became unconscious. And unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and laid down his life to save the lives of his men and to protect the mother nation.
He displayed utmost courage, indomitable bravery, and a great sacrifice of his life. For this, he was awarded Shaurya Chakra.
