L/NK BIHARI MARANDI: A BRAVE JAWAN

Lance Naik Bihari Marandi belonged to Ramnathpur village in the Pakur district of Jharkhand. He was born to Shri Baban Marandi. He joined the India Army in 2001 at the age of 17. He was recruited into 21 Bihar of the Bihar Regiment. In 2017, Lance Naik Marandi was serving in Ladakh.

During the first week of April 2017, a western disturbance over Ladakh and J&K triggered heavy rainfall and snowfall for continuous three days. This caused inundation of rivers in that area. The heavy snowfall triggered multiple avalanches. In one such avalanche on 7th April 2017, the soldiers of 21 Bihar who were manning the forward post got trapped. Out of 21 soldiers 5 were hit badly by the avalanche. The Army conducted rescue operation and managed to rescue two soldiers from 15 feet thick snow. However, Lance Naik Marandi, Havildar Prabhu Kirke, and Sepoy Lakra could not be saved. 

The brave soldier is survived by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
