Lance Naik Karnail Singh was a native of Loha Khera village in Sangrur district of Punjab. He joined the Indian Army at the age of 20 in the year 2012. He was recruited into 10 JAK Rifles of Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regiment. During 2020 Lance Naik Karnail’s unit, 10 JAK Rifles was deployed in J&K along the LoC.

On 30th September 2020, Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire in Krishna Ghati Sector and started heavy mortar shelling. Lance Naik Karnail’s unit was posted in Krishna Ghati. The Indian side retaliated with similar intensity, ensuing a heavy exchange of fire between both the sides. During this, Lance Naik Karnail Singh got seriously injured and was taken to the nearby hospital. But he could not be saved and was declared a martyr.
Lance Naik Karnail is survived by his parents, wife and a son.
