Born to a military family in Gurdaspur Punjab to a Subedar Major and Honorary Captain Joginder Singh who served in Army for 30 years. Lt. Navdeep was a third-generation officer in his family who completed his graduation in 2006 and after that he attended hotel management post graduate diploma from Army Institute of Management Kolkata. However, his zeal to join Army never ended and he joined the Officers Training Academy in Chennai and in 2010, he was commissioned into Army Ordnance Corp as Lieutenant. As serving in non-infantry units, it is mandatory to serve with infantry BN for 2 years. And with this he was deputed with 15 Maratha Light Infantry for insurgency operation in J&K.

Underwent the training for Ghatak platoon of Indian Army, he was specialized in commando operations. Serving with 15 MLI, he was made commander of Ghatak platoon. It was 19th August of 2011, his unit received information about 17 hardcore militant presence in Gurez sector which was under their Area. Fallowing the training and laying the cardan in the area, the spotted the terrorist. Positioning himself with least cover they started firing and fierce gun battle was underway. He shoot dead three terrorist before he spotted his soldier need to be rescued as he got injured. In this time, he got hit in his head and before he lays unconscious, he managed to kill fourth terrorist and managed to pull his comrade back to safe position. The operation lasted 8 minutes where 12 terrorists have been killed. Later, Lt. Navdeep body was taken to hospital and was declared martyred.
He was awarded Ashoka Chakra posthumous for his excellent deed in the battle field. Leading the team and ensuring the safety of his soldier, he sacrifice his life for the country in line of duty.
