LT UMMER FAYAZ: A YOUNG MARTYR

Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz was born on the 8th of June 1994 in the Kulgam district of J&K. He was born to Shri Fayaz Ahmad Parrey and Smt Jameela. His parents were a farmer. He had two sisters. He completed his schooling at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya. And from there he had chosen to join the Indian Army as an officer. And after completing his schooling, he told his parents that he wanted to be an officer, and his father responded positively. And he got selected for NDA. There he completed his training very well and then went to Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. After 1 year of training, he was commissioned as a Lieutenant and got into 2 Raj Rif. 2 Rajputana Rifles were the first battalion in Kargil War to give a piece of winning news, and were awarded for their bravery and courage they have shown in the war. His first posting was at the Akhnoor sector in J&K.

Till May, Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz has completed four months of service and in those four months only, he had shown various examples of his bravery in the unit. In May, he had a marriage in his family. So, he took a leave to attend the marriage and went straight to the wedding place. In the evening, he was with the bride, she was his cousin. Suddenly three armed terrorists came into the wedding and started asking for the Lieutenant and came towards him and tried to took him. And many terrorists were waiting outside the house too. Lieutenant Ummer Fayaz was unarmed and against him, they were three armed terrorists, and when they were trying to take him, he also didn’t retaliate much because, if he had opposed them, then they might have harmed his relatives, and he wanted to save them first and went with him. And the family members tried to resist but couldn’t manage to save him.

The next day in the morning, a body was reported in a nearby village and was taken to hospital, where the doctor recognized him and called his family. And a piece of very sad news came to their house. And we lost our one braver soldier in a very coward manner.
The motive was very clear by the terrorists, they don’t want that local should join security forces or police. But they didn’t succeed in their motive. But, after this incident locals lined up in a greater number of queues to join J&K police and the Indian Army.

He was given a full military funeral, and the CO of the unit has assured his family that they will revenge the loss of their brave officer. And after some months, they were killed in an operation launched by the forces after recognizing him.
