
Lt Col Ranjit Singh Panwar hailed from the divine city of Haridwar, Uttarakhand. After completing his intermediate class, he got into National Defence Academy, which is in Pune. And then went to Indian Military Academy for 1-year training, and after completing it, he became Lieutenant Panwar and got into Army Ordnance Corps, whose responsibility is to provide logistics support to the Indian Army during war and peacetime.
Till 2016, he had risen to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel after gaining experience of many years and had gained much knowledge about all the works done by AOC. During 2016, he was posted at Central Ammunition Depot, Pulgaon. The Central Ammunition Depot (CAD) Pulgaon has located about 115 km from Nagpur and is spread on an area of more than 7,000 acres and stores a variety of ammunition and explosives in a large number of sheds. The CAD functions directly under the Army headquarters and is responsible for the all-India supply of ammunition and explosives, after receiving them from Ordnance factories and other sources.

On the 31st of May 2016, a fire broke out accidentally in one of the sheds of CAD Pulgaon at around 01:30 AM in the early morning. Various teams were pressed into service on a war to contain the fire. Major Krishnan Manoj Kumar and Lt Col Ranjit Singh Panwar along with others tried very hard to stop the fire so that the damage could be kept as low as possible. Everyone there tried their level best and was able to stop the fire from going beyond that particular shed. But before the fire got silent fully, we have lost our many brave souls. There 15 soldiers of the Defence Security Corps (DSC), and two officers who lost their lives, was Lieutenant Colonel Ranjit Singh Panwar and Major Krishnan Manoj Kumar.
Lieutenant Colonel Ranjit Singh Panwar was awarded the ‘Sena Medal’ for his brave efforts to minimize the damage, and sacrificing his life.
