Lieutenant General Majinder Singh assumed charge as the Chief of Staff (CoS) of the Western Command on Thursday. He laid a wreath and paid tribute at ‘Veer Smriti’ War Memorial after arriving at the command headquarters.
The area of responsibility under Western Command is Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Jammu. Lieutenant General Singh is an alumnus of the Sainik School Kapurthala, National Defence Academy and the Indian Military Academy. He has been an instructor at the Indian Military Academy and the Indian Training Team in Bhutan. He has been decorated with the Yudh Seva Medal in 2015 and the Vishist Seva Medal in 2019 for his exemplary leadership.
In the other ceremony on the same day, Lieutenant General Amardeep Singh took charge of the Jaipur-based South Western Command of Army. He was the deputy chief of Army Staff at the Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) in New Delhi before taking over the reins of Sapta Shakti Command. Lieutenant General Bhinder succeeded Alok Kler who retired on March 31.
