Major Rajesh Nair was born on 22nd November 1970. He belonged to Maharashtra. He joined the prestigious IMA and was commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery. Later, Major Rajesh Nair was deputed to 4 Rashtriya Rifles units deployed in J&K. During the year 2001, Major Rajesh Nair’s unit was deployed in the terrorist-infested area of Doda district J&K.

On 15th November 2001, Major Rajesh Nair’s unit received information about the presence of terrorists in its area of operation. Major Rajesh Nair and his team undertook the operation. Soon the team spotted the terrorists, who fired at them on being challenged. A fierce gun battle ensued with a heavy exchange of fire. During the battle, Maj Rajesh Nair got hit by the bullets and was seriously injured. Later, Major Rajesh succumbed to his wounds.
Major Rajesh Nair was awarded the prestigious ‘Sena Medal’ posthumously for showing exceptional courage.
