On 5th May 2005, their unit got input about some terrorist’s presence in a village in Kupwara district. An operation was launched as the input was so sure, a team was made and was led by Major Salman. After reaching the suspected area, they cordoned the area well and waited for terrorists. In some piece of time, terrorists felt the presence of security forces, upon being challenged, terrorists opened fire upon the force and a heavy gunfight started. Major Salman killed one terrorist with his heavy firing. Then he saw another terrorist and he was fleeing off the spot, he chased down and shot him. In the meantime, while Major Salman was heading and killing the running one, terrorists hiding in a house, targeted Major Salman and shot many rounds of fire upon him. This made Major Salman seriously wounded but despite thinking about his injury, he lobbed a grenade at the terrorist, who shot him. In this way, he washed up all the terrorists, but he had lost heavy blood, and he succumbed to his injuries. He laid the supreme sacrifice for his country and its men. He fought till the last enemy was surviving.
