Army dedicated Goodwill Park to Late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal

Late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal born on 6th March 1968 in Jammu and Kashmir’s small town joined the elite Indian Army at the age of 19 years in 1987. He was a soldier of 8th Bn. Of JAK LI regiment. Young blood who just joined volunteer to participate in the operation to capture back the post in Siachen 21000ft above the ground. A special task force which post led by legend Nb. Sub Bana Singh (Later Hony Cap.) was created to get back the post where Chuni Lal was also a part of it. Fighting hard and showing exemplary courage and bravery to capture back the post in operation Rajiv, proving best supporter to his leader Nb. Sub. Chuni Lal was awarded the Sena Medal for his bravery.

His thirst for killing the enemies did not end there, the special mission at Line of Control Doda- Poonch Sector in Jammu and Kashmir in 1999, with the heavy shelling over their head and terrorists around, Hav. Chuni Lal led his team and daunted the bravery of moving his troops from bunkers to bunkers and motivating his men to fight the enemy, at such situation also he showed his presence of mind and bravery with the light machine gun, he neutralize two terrorist showing excellent display close quarter combat sills and inspiring his men. Totally his team eliminated twelve terrorists. For this act he was awarded Vir Chakra one of the war time Gallantry awards.

Late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal also served in a peace keeping force in Congo and Somalia. Later in June 2007, countering an infiltration bid by terrorists in Kupwara sector of J&K, with low visibility, height of 4500m and with temperature of minus 3-5, crawling under dark moving his troops and surrounding with enemy crossfire, eliminating three terrorists before he laid down his life for the country. The highest sacrifice that anyone can give for the country. For this valour Nb. Sub Chuni Lal was awarded Ashok Chakra (Posthumous). The award was received by his wife, Mrs Chinta Devi, and three children – son and two daughters on Republic Day 26th January 2008.

As a mark of tribute to one of the most decorated soldiers of Indian Army Late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal, an Army Goodwill Park was dedicated at his native village Bhara in Doda by GOC-in-C, Northern Command, Lt Gen Ranbir Singh. Many retired and serving GoCs were present on the occasion. The Army Goodwill Park has a statue of the martyred soldier, beside a Children park and open Gym for the villagers.
GoC-in-C, Northern Command said that Late Naib Subedar Chuni Lal was a brave soldier who had laid down his life for the motherland following the highest traditions of Indian Army.” Among several news articles this is one of the articles to honour late Nb.
