NAIK T KIRAN POPATRAO: A BRAVE SOLDIER

Naik Thorat Kiran Popatrao belonged to Fakirabad Wadi village in Waijapur Tehsil of the Aurangabad district in Maharashtra. Naik Thorat Kiran joined the Indian Army in 2007. He was recruited into the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. He was posted to J&K at the beginning of 2018.

In April 2018, Naik Thorat’s unit was deployed in the Rajouri district of J&K. They were manning the forward posts in the Krishna Ghati sector. On 11th April 2018, a ceasefire violation took place in the Krishna Ghati sector. Pakistani troops started unprovoked firing from across the border. Indian Army strongly retaliated to their firing, ensuing a heavy exchange of fire. Naik Thorat who was manning the forward post got grievously injured and later succumbed to his wounds.  

The brave soldier is survived by his wife and two children.
