North Korea carried out artillery firing drills to strengthen its defense capability, state media reported on Sunday. North Korea continues to press Washington and Seoul to abandon what it calls their hostile policy toward it as it conducts this latest weapon test.
Senior government and military officials attended a competition between mechanized units on Saturday, according to a report by Korean Central News Agency. The exercises were tailored to inspect mechanized units’ progress in their mobile combat capabilities and to further intensify competitive training throughout the North’s military, KCNA said.
North Korea wants its opponents to accept it as a nuclear power state and ease international sanctions against the country, according to experts. US-led dialogues aimed at ending North’s nuclear program collapsed in early 2019 amid bickering over the sanctions.
North Korea said that it won’t return to the talks unless the US first abandons what Pyongyang calls its hostile policy.
