As state media KCNA reported on Tuesday, North Korea fired tactical guided missiles on Monday, the latest in a series of recent tests that highlight the country’s evolving missile programs amid stalled denuclearization talks.
A pair of SRBMs fired from train cars was the fourth missile test conducted by N Korea in 2022, following two previous launches in which hypersonic missiles were used and a missile launch on Friday that used hypersonic missiles capable of high speeds and manoeuvrability after launch.
Military officials in South Korea say that North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles (SRBMs) from an airport in Pyongyang on Monday, which travelled about 380 kilometers and reached a maximum height of 42 kilometers.
According to the official KCNA news agency, the Academy of Defence Science conducted a test of tactical guided missiles from the country’s west, and they accurately hit an island target off the coast, the agency said.
“The test-fired was aimed to selectively evaluate tactical guided missiles being produced and deployed and to verify the accuracy of the weapon system,” KCNA said.
