India’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval is expected to attend SCO NSA meet in Tajikistan scheduled from June 23 to 24. The meeting will also be attended by NSAs of Pakistan and China. There are speculations of possible meetings between Doval and his Pakistani and Chinese counterparts on the sidelines of the meet.
This meet will help prepare the security and counter-terror agenda of the group in the run-up to this year’s summit. Counter-terror association is a main pillar of SCO and has gained special recognition in the backdrop of the current situation in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan will be the prime theme at this meeting amid the US plans of complete withdrawal of its troops. The possible meet between Doval and Pakistani NSA Moeed Yusuf will be another attention-grabbing event, which will be the first big engagement between the two sides since the ceasefire arrangement along the LoC.
Doval could also meet his Russian counterpart Nikolai Patrushev on the sidelines of the SCO meet. Afghanistan is an observer of SCO and Afghan NSA Hamdullah Mohib could also meet his Indian counterpart in Dushanbe.
