October sees 44 killings in Jammu and Kashmir

This year the month of October turned out to be the deadliest for Jammu and Kashmir as it sees 44 terrible killings, which includes 13 civilians and 12 armed forces personnel.

At least six grenade attacks, two petrol bombs attack, recovery of 4 IEDs, and a number of targeted attacks against 11 civilians which also included 5 non-local laborers and 3 members of minority communities were observed in October.

One civilian was killed for allegedly jumping a CRPF security check post and another was killed near a CRPF camp after he was allegedly trapped in the crossfire. Two more non-local laborers were found dead under mysterious circumstances.

These killings have triggered migration of non-locals from the Union Territory, with approximately 10000 of them leaving within the first two weeks of killings. Over 350 migrant families left Kashmir immediately in the same period.

“Attacks by militants have increased in October and there have been at least 10 incidents of violence initiated by militants in Srinagar. There has been a sudden paradigm shift on the ground situation,” a senior official told ET.
