Commander Royal Navy of Oman (CRNO) Rear Admiral Saif Al Rahbi is on an official tour to India that began from February 14 to 18. It is said that the main purpose of this visit is procurement of naval equipment.
An invitation from the Indian Navy Chief to visit Oman is the result of his predecessor’s visit to Oman last September, during which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed.
Aside from the visit, naval staff talks will also be held between the Indian and Omani militaries. Oman’s Navy Chief’s visit to India comes close on the heels of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence of Oman’s visit to India from January 31 to February 4, 2022, and signals the intensification of defence contacts between the two countries.
The present CRNO took charge on January 21 and this visit is very important in terms of India’s outreach to the new military leadership which was appointed under the new Sultan of Oman, sources said.
