Operation Polo: First War Fought by Free India

One of the first wars that Free India fought was known as Operation Polo. It was a battle fought for maintaining the integrity of the Indian Union and avoid its breakup. Hyderabad, one of the biggest kingdoms in India refused to become a part of the Indian Union and demanded that it be recognized as a separate nation. It was fought in 1948 in which the Indian Armed Forces annexed the state of Hyderabad and overthrew the Nizam.
