
Paratrooper Amit Kumar hailed from Uttarakhand. He belonged to the 4 Para (SF) battalion of the Parachute Regiment. In April 2020, Paratrooper Amit’s unit was posted in Kashmir for carrying out counter-insurgency operations.

Acting upon the credible information from intelligence about the infiltration attempt by the terrorists in Kupwara district, the security forces launched operation Randori Behak on 1st April 2020. The soldiers deployed in the Karen sector repeatedly picked and lost track of terrorists so it was decided to launch para commandos by air in the suspected area. Paratrooper Amit became part of this operation launched by a troop of 4 Para (SF). The terrain and weather of the area were harsh due to snow everywhere. With difficulty, the troop of commandos was able to spot the terrorists. A heavy exchange of fire took place between the two sides. However, Indian soldiers too received injuries with Paratrooper Amit and some other soldiers, namely, Subedar Sanjeev Kumar, Paratrooper Bal Krishan, Havildar Davendra Singh, and Paratrooper Chhatrapal Singh were martyred.
Paratrooper Amit was a valiant soldier who sacrificed his life for the nation.
