Several Chinese settlements have been built in a disputed area in Arunachal Pradesh as part of its effort to assert its claim along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), a Pentagon report to the US Congress noted.
“Beginning in May 2020, PLA launched incursions into customarily Indian-controlled territory across the border and has concentrated troops at several standoff locations along LAC. In addition, a substantial reserve force Tibet and Xinjiang military districts were deployed to the interior of western China to provide a rapid response,” the report said.
The report noted the construction of a new village by the Chinese government in Arunachal Pradesh last year, in an area contested along the Tsari river. New settlements along the border by the PLA have been described as dual purpose, likely to serve a military role as well.
