Harsh Vardhan Shringla said there were three initiatives the Quad nations have taken for the Indo-Pacific region. To start with, improving and enhancing the well-being of people in Asia-Pacific. Second, Quad has adopted and implemented shared standards, principles, and norms as well as promoting secure equipment and infrastructure to address modern issues like cyber security. And third, to collaborate on initiatives like fellowship programmes.
Shringla was addressing ‘Quad and Future of the Indo-Pacific’ at the 5th India-US Forum. He said, “Broadly, there are three kinds of initiatives that the Quad is handling – the first set is aimed at the well-being of the people of the Indo-Pacific region. One such example is the Quad vaccine initiative, which seeks to supply one billion doses of Covid-19 vaccine to countries in the region by the end of 2022.”
In a subtle reference to Quad’s ability to counter China, he said that the partnership of the four nations would be able to address modern international matters and concerns. He also added that the ability of Quad as democratic countries will also strengthen respect for global law and ensure peace in the Indo-Pacific.
