Radar tech developed by DRDO to power IAF’s Airbus

Spanish-based Airbus is planning to provide two advanced radar systems to the Indian Air Force (IAF), including the Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS), built by India’s Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

Airbus will procure the RWR and MAWS from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL). The DRDO disclosed this during a presentation it gave at IIT Delhi during the 5th World Congress on Disaster Management.

On social media, DRDO announced a state-of-the-art RWR system capable of intercepting radio emissions periodically from radar systems by scanning across frequency bands.

“This contract will support the development of India’s aerospace ecosystem, bringing investment and 15000 skilled directed jobs and 10000 indirect positions over the coming 10 years,” Michael Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space said.
