While commissioning “INS Visakhapatnam,” a P-15 B stealth guided missile destroyer in Mumbai, India’s defence minister Rajnath Singh spoke of the need to keep the Indo-Pacific region open, safe, and secure in order to counter China’s belligerence.
At the commissioning ceremony, the first of the four destroyers of the Visakhapatnam class was formally inducted. The destroyers were built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai, and designed by the Indian Navy’s design organisation, the Directorate of Naval Designs.
Defence Minister asserted that India’s interests are directly linked with the Indian Ocean and the region is crucial for the world economy. “Therefore, the role of the Indian Navy becomes very important in the entire Indo-Pacific region,” he added.
India is a responsible maritime stakeholder and has affirmed its support for consensus-based principles as well as a peaceful, open, rules-based, and stable order for the maritime sector.
