Rifleman Karamjit Singh was born to an army veteran Avtar Singh and Smt Kulwant Kaur, in the Moga district of Punjab. He joined the Indian Army in 2015 after completing his school education. He was recruited into the 18th battalion of J&K Rifles. In March 2019, Rifleman Karamjit’s unit was posted in the Sunderbani sector near LoC in Rajouri district, J&K.

 On 18th March 2019 Rifleman Karamjit was deployed at the forward post of the Keri area in the Sundarbani sector. Early in the morning, the Pakistani troops broke the ceasefire and initiated unprovoked firing from across the border. They were using heavy artillery guns and mortars. The Indian side retaliated in a befitting manner to the Pakistani firing. However, during the heavy cross-firing Rifleman Karamjit got seriously injured and was immediately shifted to the military hospital. But he succumbed to his injuries and got martyred. 

The young brave son of the soil is survived by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
