Rifleman Shubham Sharma was born to Shri Vijay Kumar in the year 1998. He was a native of Shakhian Chak village in Satraiyan tehsil of Jammu. He joined the Indian Army at age of 18 on 17th September 2016. He was recruited into 8 JAK Rif battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry regiment. During 2020, Rifleman Shubham’s unit was deployed in Kupwara district of J&K. The unit troops were responsible for manning the forward posts in the Nowgam sector along the LoC.

On 1st October 2020, Pakistani Army troops started unprovoked firing along the LoC from across the border in Nowgam sector. During this time Rifleman Shubham was manning the forward posts. The Indian Army also gave befitting reply to Pakistan’s aggression. Consequently, a heavy exchange of fire ensued which continued intermittently for several hours. However, during this period Rifleman Shubham, Havildar Kuldeep Singh and four other soldiers got severely injured. They were immediately taken to the base hospital but Rifleman Shubham and Havildar Kuldeep succumbed to their injuries and got martyred.
Rifleman Shubham is survived by his parents and a brother.
