Rifleman Sukhwinder Singh was born to Shri Avinesh Kumar and Smt Rani. He belonged to Fatehpur village in Mukerian tehsil of the Hoshiarpur district in Punjab. He was recruited into 18 JAK Rif of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles regiment. In December 2019, Rifleman Sukhwinder Singh’s unit 18 J&K Rifles were deployed in the Rajouri district of J&K along the LOC.

On 17th December 2019 Pakistani forces indulged in ceasefire violation and resorted to unprovoked firing. On that day, Rifleman Sukhwinder Singh and his comrades were manning the forward posts in the Sunderbani sector along the LOC. Indian army initiated a befitting reply resulting in a prolonged cross-border exchange of fire. However, during the exchange of fire, Rifleman Sukhwinder Singh got seriously injured. He later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred.
Rifleman Sukhwinder Singh is survived by his mother Smt Rani and brother Gurpal Singh.
