Rifleman Vinod Singh belonged to Danapur Jaurian village in the Akhnoor district of J&K. He joined the Indian Army after completing his schooling. He was recruited into 8 JAK LI of the famed Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment. During 2018, Rifleman Vinod’s unit was posted in the Sunderbani sector in the Rajouri district of J&K.

On 9th April 2018, Pakistani troops initiated unprovoked firing on the Indian posts from across the border in the Sunderbani sector. Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and stuck to unprovoked firing using small arms, automatics, and mortars. The Indian troops gave a befitting reply by retaliating with the same aggression. This resulted in a heavy exchange of fire for several hours. However, during the fierce firing Rifleman Jaki Sharma and Rifleman Vinod got severely injured. Later Rifleman Vinod succumbed to his wounds.  

Rifleman Vinod was a brave soldier who laid his life in the service of the nation. He is survived by his father Ajit Singh.
