The G7 or the Group of Seven richest democracies warned Russia on Sunday of massive consequences if Russian President Vladimir Putin attacked Ukraine, as per a draft statement noticed by Reuters.
During the summit in Liverpool, the northern English town, the representatives from the G7 countries said that they were united in their criticism of Russia’s military build-up near Ukraine and they asked Moscow to de-escalate.
“Russia should be in no doubt that further military aggression against Ukraine would have massive consequences and severe cost,” the draft statement stated, confirmed by G7 sources.
The Russian government has denied planning any attack, accuses Ukraine and the United States of destabilizing behavior, and says that its own security requires security guarantees.
Among the G7 nations are the United States, Japan, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Greece, as well as a representative from the European Union.
