Sanctions on Russia could affect deliveries of S-400 and AK 203 to India

Due to the conflict in Ukraine, the delivery of critical military systems in the pipeline from Russia is at risk, as Western countries consider additional sanctions that could impact the weapon trade.

In addition to spares and supplies for existing equipment, adverse sanctions could impact delivery of at least three systems, including the S-400 air defense system and Talwar class frigates. These are in advanced stages of delivery, with payments being made through European banking channels.

The deals that could be affected include Project 11356, which is a $950 million deal for the delivery of four frigates to the Indian Navy, S-400 deliveries, and the BrahMos-Russian venture which recently secured an export deal from the Philippines.

It is unlikely that the sanctions will lead to the closure of any projects as India is determined to go ahead with Russia. However, they can cause payment delays and also pose procedural difficulties that will take time to resolve.
