Philippines signed a $375 million deal last week for BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to be operated by the Philippines Marines. There is another long-pending deal for BrahMos missiles for the Philippines Army under discussion, which is expected to see progress soon according to defence and diplomatic sources.
“The Marines deal is done, next will be the Philippines Army. The Philippines Army (PA) will push through with the project,” two diplomatic sources said.
Philippines Amry’s acquisition of BrahMos is included in the Horizon 3 Modernization program. Originally, this project had been in the works before the Philippines Marines, which were under the Navy, started their project, but were delayed and held in abeyance.
Earlier in 2019, the Philippines Army activated its first land-based missile unit under the Army Artillery Regiment in preparation for inducting the BrahMos.
