
Sepoy Muniappan belonged to Bangalore in Karnataka. He was born to Shri Appavu and Smt Panjasaaram on 25th March 1966. At an age of 19 years, he joined the Indian Army. He got recruited into the Army Service Corps, the corps which carries out the logistic supplies of the Army. After serving a very few years with his parent unit, he deputed for Rashtriya Rifles. He got into 16 RR which was posted in North East, to counter Maoists in Nagaland.

Based on some previous inputs, which their unit got from an intelligence agency, the unit planned a counter-insurgency operation on the 22nd of May, 1996. Sepoy Muniappan was part of the team that was assigned the task of neutralizing the militants. According to their plan, after reaching the suspected area, they started to search for the terrorists. In some piece of time, they made contact with the enemy, and a heavy gunfight started from both sides. Sepoy Muniappan was doing his task very effectively and suddenly he got injured by the enemy’s gunfire. Later he succumbed to his injuries and got martyred. Sepoy Muniappan was remembered as a brave soldier who was very much dedicated to his task.
In a very short span of his service, he had learned very much in operational skills. Sepoy Muniappan is survived by his wife M Devi, daughter Vanitha and sons Manjunath & Vinod Kumar.
