Sepoy Sukhwinder Singh belonged to the Hakamsingwala village of Bhagat Bhaika Tehsil in Bathinda District of Punjab. Sepoy Sukhwinder after completing his studies joined the Indian Army at the age of 20 years in 2012. During 2018, Sepoy Sukhwinder’s unit was deployed in the Kupwara district of J&K along the LOC. India shares around 3000 Km border with Pakistan of which around 740 km of LOC falls in Jammu & Kashmir.

Army deploys armed patrols regularly to check infiltration and Sepoy Sukhwinder was part of one such patrol on 6th June 2018 in the Keran sector of Kupwara district. Whilst on patrol, during a standoff attack by the militants who were trying to infiltrate, Sepoy Sukhwinder got hit by the bullets and was injured. He was immediately taken to the base hospital but on 7th June 2018, he died and was declared a martyr.
Sepoy Sukhwinder was a valiant and committed soldier, who at the age of 26 years, laid down his life in the service of the nation. Sep Sukhwinder Singh is survived by his parents and two brothers.
