During 2018, 13 Grenadiers were deployed in the Gurez Sector of J&K. On 12th May, an accidental fire broke out in the camp of the unit where Subedar Sattar was posted. The fire soon engulfed the arms and ammunition store of the unit located in the camp. The situation was very dangerous and was a serious threat to the lives of all the soldiers along with the loss of costly weapons and ammunition. On seeing this, Subedar Sattar realized the gravity of the situation and went on to the fire spot. He started to pull out as many weapons and ammunition as possible to prevent the situation to become worst from worse. But, while doing this, he sustained 50 percent burn injuries on his body. Then he was airlifted to take him to Army Hospital in Srinagar. There he fought for his life for eight days, but in the end, he lost. And left only memories with us.
He saved many lives by sacrificing his own. He was a valiant and committed soldier who laid down his life in the service of the nation.
