Subedar Gamar Bahadur Thapa belonged to Karhiya Village in the Rependehi district of Nepal. He joined the army in 1993 and was recruited into the 2/8 GR battalion of the 8 Gorkha Rifles Regiment. In Dec 2018, Subedar Gamar Bahadur Thapa’s unit 2/8 GR was deployed in the Keran Sector near LOC in the Kupwara district of J&K.

On 21st December 2018, Subedar Gamar Bahadur Thapa was deployed at the forward post in Peer Baba Grahat along the LOC in the Jumgund area in Keran Sector. Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire and started firing snipers, the Indian army retaliated in a befitting manner resulting in a heavy exchange of fire. During this firing, Subedar Gamar Bahadur Thapa got wounded seriously and was immediately evacuated and rushed to the Military Hospital at Dragmulla. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred.
Subedar Gamar Bahadur Thapa is survived by his wife and two sons.
