
Subedar Rajesh Kumar was born to an army veteran Havildar Ram Chander and he hailed from Kalichpur Kalota village in Mukerian tehsil of Hosiarpur district in Punjab. He joined the Army at the age of 19. He was recruited into 60 Med Regt of the Regiment of Artillery. During September 2020, Subedar Rajesh’s unit was deployed in Rajouri district of J&K.

On the night of 1st September 2020, troops of Pakistan Army initiated unprovoked firing on the Indian posts in Rajouri district. Indian side gave a befitting reply and a heavy exchange of firing ensued between the two sides. During the heavy firing Subedar Rajesh got seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries and was declared a martyr.
Subedar Rajesh Kumar is survived by his parents, wife, a daughter and a son.
