Subedar Raman Thapa belonged to Tulsipur Village in Rependehi district of Nepal. He joined the army in 1996 and was recruited into the 2/8 GR battalion of the 8 Gorkha Rifles Regiment. In Dec 2018, Subedar Raman Thapa’s unit 2/8 GR was deployed in the Keran Sector near LOC in the Kupwara district of J&K.

On 21st December 2018, Subedar Raman Thapa was deployed at the forward post in Peer Baba Grahat along the LOC in the Jumgund area in Keran Sector. Pakistani Army violated the ceasefire and started firing snipers, the Indian army retaliated in a befitting manner resulting in a heavy exchange of fire. During this firing, Subedar Raman Thapa got wounded seriously and was immediately evacuated and rushed to the Military Hospital at Dragmulla. However, he later succumbed to his injuries and was martyred.
Subedar Raman Thapa is survived by his wife and son.
