
Subedar Sukhdev Singh hailed from Peoni village in Majalta tehsil of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir. He joined the Indian Army after completing his schooling. He was recruited into 16 Grenadiers of the Grenadiers. He had taken part in the Kargil war in the year 1999. During 2020, Subedar Sukhdev’s unit 16 Grenadiers was posted in Rajouri district of J&K. The troops were responsible for manning the forward posts in Nowshera sector along the LoC.

On 5th October 2020, Pakistani Army troops started unprovoked firing on the Indian posts along the border. The Pakistani troops broke the ceasefire and resorted to heavy firing. The Indian Army gave a befitting reply to Pakistan’s aggression, ensuing heavy cross-border firing. However, in the heavy firing Subedar Sukhdev Singh got severely injured and was immediately rushed to the nearby medical facility. But he could not be saved and was declared a martyr.
Subedar Sukhdev Singh is survived by his parents, wife, a daughter and a son.
