The 15th edition of Indo-Nepal joint military training ‘Exercise Surya Kiran’ is starting from September 20 at Pithoragarh in Uttarakhand. As part of the exercise, both the Armies would familiarise themselves with each other’s weapons, equipment, tactics, techniques, and procedures of operating in a counter-insurgency environment in mountainous terrain.
Additionally, there would be a series of expert academic discussions on various subjects such as Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief, High Altitude Warfare, Jungle Warfare, etc.
The joint exercise would culminate with a 48-hour drill to validate the performance of both armies in counter-insurgency ops. It is part of an initiative to build interoperability and sharing expertise between the two nations.
This joint military drill will enhance bilateral relations and will be a historic step towards bolstering the traditional friendship between the two neigbouring countries. The last edition of ‘Exercise Surya Kiran’ was carried out in Nepal in 2019.
