According to the Pakistani Army, ten soldiers were killed by terrorists attacking a security checkpost in Kech district of the restive southwest Balochistan province on Thursday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the military, said that the fire raid by terrorists occurred on the night of January 25-26.
The report said that 10 soldiers were killed in an intense exchange of fire, and that one terrorist was killed and others were injured in the incident. An investigation into the clearance operation revealed that three terrorists had been arrested. “Armed forces are determined to eliminate terrorists from our soil no matter what the cost,” the statement added.
In the borderlands of Iran and Afghanistan, Balochistan is home to a violent insurgency that dates back years. Baloch insurgent groups have previously carried out several attacks targeting China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in the region.
