Two Indian army jawans were martyred and a terrorist was gunned down during an encounter in highly volatile district of Shopian in South Kashmir, officials said on Saturday.
The security forces launched a cordon and search operation after receiving specific tip off from intelligence about the presence of terrorists in Zainpora area of the Shopian district, they said.
During the operation, the terrorists who were hiding in the area started firing upon the security forces and they retaliated ensuing encounter in which army lost two soldiers, officials added.
One terrorist was neutralised during the encounter by the security forces, they said, adding that the identity of the slain terrorist is being ascertained.
