Two unidentified militants were killed in an encounter with the security forces in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
The security forces personnel conducted a cordon and search operation in the Chowgan area of the Shopian district located in south Kashmir. The security personnel acted upon the inputs from intelligence about the presence of militants.
A police official said that the search operation turned into an encounter when the militants who were hiding in the area opened fire on the security personnel.
Two militants were killed in the ensuing gunfight, the official said, adding that their identities and terror group affiliation are being ascertained and confirmed.
