In Uttar Pradesh, a district court has served a notice on the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) over the uniform that Prime Minister Modi wore during his Kashmir visit last year.
According to the case filed in Prayagraj, it is an offence punishable under Section 140 of Indian Penal Code to wear garb or carry tokens that were previously owned by soldiers, sailors, or airmen. As per a report in Dainik Bhaskar, district judge Nalin Kumar Srivastava issued the notice after hearing arguments of advocate Rakesh Nath Pandey, who had moved the application under section 156(3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
In December 2021, an application was filed by Pandey when chief judicial magistrate Harendra Nath had rejected it saying that the incident did not take place within the court’s jurisdiction. Pandey has now issued notice to the PMO for PM wearing the army uniform from 2017 onwards.
In November 2021, Prime Minister Modi celebrated Diwali with soldiers posted in Nowshera district of Jammu and Kashmir wearing a military uniform.
