What is the difference between the Indian Armed Forces and the Paramilitary Forces?

The basic difference between the Indian Armed Forces (Army, Navy, and Air Force) and the Paramilitary Forces (CRPF, ITBP, BSF, CISF and Assam Rifles) is that the Army, Navy and Air Force come under the Ministry of Defence whereas, CRPF, ITBP, BSF, CISF and Assam Rifles come under the Ministry of Home Affairs. Both of them are referred as Security Forces of India.
